As the world matured, darker reflections emerged. The virtues embodied by the Principles became twisted into domination, obsession, delusion, despair, and destruction. Whether these corruptions arose from within creation itself or from the influence of the Maw remains a matter of fierce theological debate.
Across the world, gods, giants, dragons, spirits, and primordial powers fought vast wars whose echoes still shape the lands of Tolrendor. Mountains were shattered. Seas were born. Entire peoples rose and fell amid the chaos.
Different cultures preserve different memories of these struggles. In Norðrlǫnd, the conflict is remembered through the deeds of Óðvaldr and Hrímvaldr. Around the Inner Sea, tales speak of KaragTar, Bane, and the breaking of Karagthal. Elsewhere, countless myths preserve fragments of a greater truth, each claiming to remember how the world was nearly lost.
What is certain is that the Age of Strife brought creation to the brink of ruin.
As the wars escalated, the barriers between the world and the greater powers beyond grew thin. Chaos spilled into the mortal realm. Ancient powers unleashed forces they could no longer fully control. Faced with the destruction of all they had made, the surviving powers took a final, desperate course.
The age ended with the Sundering.
The Veil was raised between Tolrendor and the greater realms beyond. Gods, primordials, and other transcendent beings found themselves forever separated from the world they had shaped. The great wars ceased, but the scars they left behind would define every age that followed.
